Welcome from the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion icon-olus-circle

"Our team is pleased to be a part of a collective University-wide commitment that celebrates our diversity and is vigorously engaged in strengthening our mutual capacities to create an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment. The Office serves as the focal point and resource for diversity, equity and inclusion services, outreach and consultation. Our work has traditionally been focused on serving constituencies historically underrepresented in higher education and we remain dedicated to providing the tools and support necessary for prospective and enrolled students to successfully achieve their academic goals, graduate and pursue professional careers. We do this, in part, by creating a space where all are welcome and can develop and thrive, leading/advancing diversity strategic planning and building collaborative relationships with staff, faculty, administrators across campus and our local community. Though we deeply value our connections to College and campus partners who share our desire and efforts to increase intercultural communications, advocate for social justice and equity and enrich the campus climate for diversity and inclusive excellence, this important work cannot happen without every heart, hand and mind.

We invite you to stop by the office to meet us, explore our resources and to join us in cultivating a community that embraces and celebrates individual uniqueness, respect and dignity."

Joyce Hopson-King, Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion

Our History

The Office for Diversity and Inclusion, previously known as the Office for Minority Affairs and later known as the Office for Diversity Enhancement. It originated in the year 1986, making it among one of the first offices dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion at the Pennsylvania State University in the University Park campus. Since our inception, we have created initiatives to support the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Health and Human Development.

Our Vision

A thriving community where civility, respect and inclusion are experienced by all members and the core values of diversity and equity are expressed broadly in our scholarly pursuits, educational practices and aspirations to be engaged and contributing global citizens.

Our Mission

The Office for Diversity and Inclusion promotes the core values of diversity, equity and inclusion that cultivates a welcoming climate for the College of Health and Human Development’s students, faculty and staff through direct student and administrative services, programming and consultation.

I see the office as a resource that helps me stay on top of my education.
