Alumni Society Board Members Making Plans for 2010-11
During a recent conference call, the members of the NDAS Board of Directors discussed ideas for activities to be carried out during the upcoming months. Ensuring outreach to students as well as mentoring and learning experiences, linking alumni with each other, and offering program support were prime among the goals. Read more.
About the NDAS Board of Directors
Christine Lewis Taylor ’77g, ’86g (Alumni Board President) is a scholar at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in Washington, D.C. The IOM is an independent advisory body to the federal government, and Taylor has served as study director for several reports issued by IOM’s Food and Nutrition Board. These have included the report on improving school meals and the report on strategies to reduce sodium intake. Currently she is the study director for the report addressing vitamin D and calcium Dietary Reference Intakes. Prior to moving to the IOM in 2006, Taylor worked for twenty-two years at the Food and Drug Administration where she headed the Office of Nutritional Products, Labeling and Dietary Supplements. She lives in Kensington, Maryland, with her husband Mike Taylor.
Jennifer Lynn-Pullman ’98 (Vice-President) works as a private contractor for a bariatric surgery practice in Philadelphia. She has been in her current position for the past three years. She also is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions at Holy Family University. She received her master's degree in nutrition education from Immaculata University in 2004.
Jaime Schwartz ’01 (Secretary) is a senior account executive in the Food and Wellness Group of Ketchum Public Relations. Her research interests include environmental factors impacting dietary choices (i.e. nutrition labeling, portion size, advertising, and media), development and validation of educational intervention programs and materials design, and nutrition communications.
Barbara Winters ’77, ’80g, ’93g (Treasurer) is a senior program manager/scientist in global nutrition and health for the Campbell Soup Company. Directly before joining Campbell’s, she was an assistant professor at Marywood University for two years. Prior to that, she served for over six years as senior research scientist and director for the Translational Research program and co-investigator and national study coordinator for a longitudinal NIH-funded, multi-centered nutrition and cancer clinical study at the American Health Foundation, New York. She completed postdoctoral training and served as a research fellow at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.
Amy Griel Preston ’00, ’06g (At-Large Member) is a senior nutrition scientist with the Hershey Company. She also holds an adjunct position within the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State and is actively involved as an instructor and preceptor in the department’s Dietetic Internship Program. Throughout graduate school, Preston’s research and training centered on cardiovascular nutrition and associated chronic diseases. She has studied many different populations, including healthy participants, overweight/obese subjects, and subjects at risk for CVD in a variety of study designs, including controlled feeding studies, a postprandial study, and a free-living study.
Joeleen Stocker ’01 (At-Large Member) is a dietitian and supervisor of the diet office staff at Mount Nittany Medical Center (MNMC) in State College, Pennsylvania. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for the combined dietetic internship and master’s degree in food and nutrition program. After graduation she started working at MNMC, and then moved to eastern Pennsylvania and she worked at Lehigh Valley Hospital Outpatient Pediatric Specialty Center. She lives in State College with her husband Cory, their daughter Addison, and their three-year-old dog Zala, a Vizsla.
