American Chef Road Trip

This camp offers young people ages 10-14 a nationwide tour via recipes, tastings and cultural descriptions in the framework of a fast-paced, physically active environment. This camp builds on the skills learned during the Cook Like A Chef: The Basic, but it is not necessary to have participated in Cook Like A Chef: The Basics to participate in Road Trip. Campers will experience a cross-country view of food, fun and culture with a different region of our country highlighted each day. The campers will together prepare at least 12 different recipes each day for their lunch, giving them exposure to a wide variety of tastes and flavors. And parents, to show off our skills, we save some for you to sample at pick up! Pack your bags, forks and spoons!


Each day’s format includes a brief introduction, the nutrition education lesson, a cooking demonstration, active cooking time, and a tasting of all the products made.

The camp program runs from 9 am to 1 pm each day in Room 7 Henderson Building on Penn State's University Park campus. The week’s activities of cooking, tasting and savoring foods.



The fee is $265 per camper. Camp fills quickly so you are advised to register as early as possible. (please note scholarships are not currently available for this camp):



Interested participants are encouraged to register early, as the program is limited to 36 campers due to safety and space in the Foods Lab. All registrations must be received by 5:00 p.m. EST on June 17, 2016. After this date, please email Lisa Clapper at


If you register online, you will receive an email confirmation. If you register by phone, you will receive a confirmation via postal mail.

NOTE: Due to current construction surrounding Henderson Building, where the camp will take place, you will receive detailed instructions on where to park to drop off your child two weeks prior to the start of camp.


If your request to withdraw is received at least fifteen business days prior to the first day of the program, you will receive a partial refund. Send your written request by e-mail to A $50 administrative fee will be charged for each withdrawal.


For legal reasons, the University cannot release the names or phone numbers of other participants, not even to those who want to carpool.
