Angeline Jeyakumar
Dr. Angeline Jeyakumar recently began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition, at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). In her dual role as the Northern Nevada Nutrition Specialist, Dr. Jeyakumar will develop and implement community-based interventions to reduce chronic disease risk among Washoe County residents. She plans to collaborate with others across the state to help ensure a seamless, complementary approach that reflects the unique characteristics of Nevada. Dr. Jeyakumar also looks forward to engaging in collaborative research with universities in the country and abroad in specific areas such as food security, nutrition transition, and emerging dietary behaviors to benefit underserved and isolated communities. She brings 20+ years of experience to UNR including her most recent position in the School of Health Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Maharashtra, India. There she taught post-graduate courses, coordinated the Integrative Dietetics program, and conducted public health nutrition research, specifically maternal and child health. The latter focused on undernutrition, infant and young child feeding, the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies (e.g., Vitamin D and iron), and the evaluation of interventions to mitigate risk factors.
