Hearing aid Test on patient.

With the goal of helping everyone from children to adults overcome speech, hearing, language, and learning difficulties, Communication Science and Disorders majors learn what it means to make a real difference in people’s lives.

As a CSD major, you may customize your curriculum to establish a strong foundation in the basic sciences and processes related to communication, swallowing, and cognition, as well as to learn about humanities and education topics including language-learning, special education, and linguistics. Through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experiences, you’ll learn how speech-language pathologists and audiologists provide intervention and services to children and adults with speech, language, and/or hearing disorders in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and public schools.

Whether they are helping children work through the challenges of stuttering, working with adults who want to overcome a speech impediment, or researching related products for a business or organization, CSD graduates can pursue myriad opportunities in the field; many continue their education through a speech-language pathology or audiology graduate program.
