Meet the Department Head
Andrew J. Mowen, Ph.D.
Professor and Professor-in-Charge of Honors Programs
Andrew Mowen is the interim department head for the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management. He also serves as professor and professor-in-charge of honors programs. Andrew obtained his doctorate degree in leisure studies from Penn State and master’s degree in forestry and forest products from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University.
Andrew’s research interests focus on the financial and health benefits of park and recreation services. His research projects have documented the economic and health contributions of outdoor recreation investments and policies, including public attitudes toward park and conservation funding strategies as well as urban park capital investments and programmatic activation.
