Major in Hospitality Management

Designed for students who have an interest in pursuing a vast spectrum of far-reaching service-oriented careers, the world-class School of Hospitality Management (SHM) undergraduate program at Penn State will help you make your professional mark within any segment of the hospitality sector.
By tailoring this flexible curriculum to meet your specific needs and interests, you may pursue a B.S. degree with an emphasis in restaurant management, hotel management, or institutional management. As an SHM student, you’ll gain the analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills you need to become a successful hospitality professional. Choose courses that allow you to continue pursuing a general emphasis in hospitality, or select a sequence of courses that offer a specific emphasis in restaurant management, hotel management, or institutional management. You may also pursue a concentration in areas such as financial management, human resource management, marketing, or hospitality management information systems.
As an SHM major, you’ll also have the chance to roll up your sleeves and work at our full-service, on-site restaurant Café Laura our and state-of-the art Food Decisions Research Laboratory — as well as obtain training and certification in important industry standards, such as the National Restaurant Association ServSafe certification and the STR Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics.
