Your membership in the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society will help support the following initiatives this year:

  • Continuation of our Student Mentoring Program.
  • Support of Student Activities & Student Organizations such as the student chapter of the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society. Provision of funding to the School for leadership training for student leaders within the School.
  • Programs and events to include the Alumni in the Classroom and Alumni Awards Reception, International PSHRS Day,  Hospitality Executive of the Year Award Ceremony and Reception,  and regional alumni events throughout the year.

Membership Opportunities icon-olus-circle

PSHRS promotes membership and affiliation in the Penn State Alumni Association as well as other special interest groups within the College of Health and Human Development and the HRIM industries. PSHRS has several distinct categories of membership designed to meet both individual and business needs.

Active Membership—For those who have graduated from Penn State and are/were actively involved in the HRIM industries.

Associate Membership—Available to all faculty members, parents of students or alumni, friends of the program, and others who are actively engaged in the HRIM.

Lifetime Membership—Open to life members in the Penn State Alumni Association who wish to join the Penn State Hotel & Restaurant Society for a lifetime at a favorable rate and avoid annual payments.

Corporate Sponsorships—Corporate operators and industry suppliers may be part of PSHRS as a sponsor of PSHRS endeavors.

Expectations of Elected Chairs icon-olus-circle

·  Fulfill and exceed all expectations in the defined role as a PSHRS Board Member.

·  Financially support a PSHRS or School related scholarship, endowment or program fund on an annual basis. There is not a defined amount but we expect 100% participation from our board members.

·  Attending and participating in all scheduled board meetings. These are held three times a year (Winter, Summer, and Fall) and will usually require travel to University Park (other locations may include New York or other major cities in the Northeast) as well as an overnight stay at the board member’s own expense for each meeting.

·  Serving actively as needed on PSHRS committees. Committee activities, meetings, and conference call are scheduled as needed. 

·  Assisting in identifying, cultivating, and involving PSHRS alumni in all activities and initiatives.

·  Participating in institutional and alumni activities and programs, both locally and on campus whenever possible.

·  Being familiar with the programs and activities sponsored and organized for and by PSHRS and the School of Hospitality Management.

·  PSHRS board members are required to be dues-paying members of the society.

·  Assuming expenses incurred when participating in alumni activities.
