Purpose:

This is a nutritional study examining the effect of eating pecans as a snack on outcomes related to heart disease risk factors.

Procedures and Compensation:

  • This is a 12‐week study
  • We will provide you with 2 oz./day of pecans to consume as a snack or you will be asked to continue with your usual diet and be provided with gift cards
  • Measurements of blood markers (sugar, insulin, cholesterol), gut health, blood pressure, and vascular health, will be done at the beginning and end of the study
  • Up to $200 compensation.
  • Lab results provided at no cost.

You may qualify if you meet the following criteria:

  • 25‐70 years old · BMI 25‐40 kg/m2
  • Non‐smoker
  • Not taking anti‐hypertensive, lipid lowering, glucose lowering drugs, steroids, or antibiotics
  • Free of heart disease, stroke, kidney or liver disease

This research study is being conducted by Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton and Dr. Kristina Petersen from the Department of Nutritional Sciences and has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of the Pennsylvania State University.
