Tuition, Fees and Funding
The Penn State MAT program prides itself on being among the best values for the cost nationwide. For Pennsylvania residents, the full cost of completing the curriculum is among the most competitive in the country.
Tuition
Current tuition costs can be obtained from the Tuition Schedule. Students can gauge cost per semester for Pennsylvania and non-Pennsylvania residents. Students are directed to focus on rates for “All Other Programs” under the “Graduate” category.
Students can gain additional insights on the cost of their education by using other tools provided by the Budget Office. This includes the Tuition and College Cost Estimator, which will project approximations for rent, meals, and books.
International students who will be attending Penn State in F-1 (student visa) or J-1 (student category) status must meet the International Financial Guarantee Requirements regarding visa documents. Global Programs uses living expenses based on 12 months rather than 9 months.
Fees
Penn State issues a student fee every semester. The current fee, calculated based on the campus and the number of credits in which a student is enrolled, can be calculated by completing the Tuition and College Cost Estimator. This fee supports student-centered activities, services, facilities, and recreation to improve student life, and is the result of a student-led initiative to be more involved in the creation and allocation of student fees.

Additional variable costs for textbooks, mandatory background checks, student professional liability insurance, and attire are estimated to range between $700 - $1,000 for the two-year program. Other variable expenses related to sitting for the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) national exam can be found on their website.
Funding
The MAT program has limited funds available to support students. These are in the form of scholarships and travel awards, and are available to both incoming and continuing graduate students. Students do not need to apply for scholarships and are automatically considered for this type of funding upon admission. Honorees are notified of having been selected to receive a scholarship every fall semester.
Additionally, travel grants are available to students and function to support their professional development by attending symposia. Students must apply for travel awards through the Department of Kinesiology.
