Smoking and Health Behavior Research Laboratory
Steven Branstetter, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor

Welcome to the Smoking and Health Behavior Research Laboratory at the Pennsylvania State University.
The Mission of our laboratory is to contribute to the scientific understanding of a range of smoking behaviors including smoking onset, the experience of nicotine addiction, nicotine withdrawal and smoking cessation. We are involved in a variety of research studies including laboratory-based studies of the influence of genetic expression on nicotine metabolism and withdrawal, secondary data analyses of nationally representative samples, and outcomes of the American Lung Association’s youth smoking cessation program, Not On Tobacco (N-O-T). We are also dedicated to providing quality, hands-on, multidisciplinary training and education for both undergraduate and graduate students with interests in tobacco research.
