Objective 1.2.: Expand array of financial aid and student support programs

Action Item 1.2.1

Develop staffing and funding to support a college-level emergency assistance program to retain students with short-term financial exigencies and need for supportive services.

Implementation Tasks

Establish a funding target, develop draft awarding guidelines, and create a fundraising campaign, to build a sustainable source of funds for emergency assistance.
Launch and implement campaign to achieve funding target
Hire staff to support review of student needs and implement student supports and award funding

Responsible Party: Development Office; Assistant Dean for Student Services and Engagement; Human Resources

Metrics: Plans for fundraising campaign completed and fundraising effort launched; Student success staff position(s) created, posted and person(s) hired.

Action Item 1.2.2

Enter the Millennium Scholars Program in order to provide additional, fully funded, and programmatically-supported, scholarships for under-represented minorities in the college’s STEM-related majors.

Implementation Tasks

Develop a plan to support the interests of future HHD students who may be participants in this program and implement staffing and funding for program support.
Establish a funding target and create and launch a fundraising campaign to build a sustainable source of funds for HHD’s participation
Develop recruitment plan and recruit initial cohort of HHD Millennium Scholars

Responsible Party: Development Office; Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Outreach Programs

Metrics: Submission of plan for student support to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Development; Submission of development plan and kickoff of fundraising campaign for HHD Millennium Scholars Program; Launch of recruitment for HHD Millennium Scholars and successful recruitment of first class of scholars.

Continue expansion of financial aid for engaged learning opportunities, including internship, research, global, service and leadership experiences.

Implementation Tasks

Develop plan to grow Internship Enrichment Fund, Smith Undergraduate Research Fund, and additional funds for engaged learning
Establish a funding target and create and launch a fundraising campaign to build a sustainable source of funds for engaged learning support

Responsible Party: Development Office; Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Outreach Programs

Metrics: Plan and fundraising target established; funds awarded per year

Start and End Dates: 2022-2025

Key Performance Indicators

Fundraising targets achieved; Number of students receiving services and funding, and amount of funding awarded; student loan debt at graduation; Number of HHD students participating in the Millennium Scholars Program.
